We were commissioned to fabricate a whisky wall to showcase Diageo’s Whisky at The Whisky Exchange Exhibition Show in London.
Initial Design Brief
We were given the design brief to make an LED lit display wall to showcase 8 bottles of Diageo whiskey. This was to be installed initially at the Whiskey Exchange Exhibition Show 2023. The panels were to form a curved whisky wall and needed to be semi transparent. Our client wished to place lighting at the bottom of the panels that would shine through and show the colours. Structurally it needed to be sound, sturdy and safe for people to move around it. It also had to be reusable at other venues. Additionally, our clients requested a scaled down version with only three of the eight panels commissioned. This was for use as window displays and for product merchandising.
Design evolution
In discussion with our clients it was agreed that lighting the full face of the panels would achieve the most effective look within their budget. The challenge was to produce an even spread of light across each panel, given their shallow depth.
Our fabricators chose to use Perspex Opal as this is the perfect material to create a stunning lit effect in conjunction with LEDs.
We also had to make sure that when the panels were installed they fitted together seamlessly. To solve this issue we supplied a polycarbonate base plate that connected all the panels together and allowed electrical access for any position along the wall. Initially we made a mock up to scale in order for our clients to see how it would work, and in order for them to agree the colours prior to lighting them.
We worked hard to fulfil our part of the design brief. When all the elements were put together the wall looked stunning. We hope you agree with us.
Thank you Thirst Aid Bars and Diageo for sharing the photos of the whisky wall in situ at The Whisky Exchange Exhibition Show in London.
